Register a Project

Carbon offset projects typically have the following life cycle (View the VCS Project Lifecycle diagram)

The VCS Project LifeCycle

VCS Projects generally move sequentially through the steps and phases shown below. Each step shown indicates which party (Project Proponent, Registry or Verification/Validation Body) is responsible for completing the task.

Close
  1. New Project Development Phase
    1. Project Proponent creates a Project Idea Note (PIN)
    2. Project Proponent submits PIN to Registry
    3. Create a Pipeline Project (Requirements Coming Soon)
  2. VCS Validation Phase
    1. Project Proponent creates PDD
    2. Project Proponent submits PDD to VVBs
    3. VVBs perform Validation
    4. VVBs issue Validation Report & Validation Representation
    5. Project Proponent creates Registration Representation
    6. Project Proponent creates Project Record, and uploads docs
    7. Project Proponent Submits as Validated
    8. Registry evaluates documentation and Accepts project as "Validated Project"
  3. VCS Verification Phase
    1. Project Proponent implements project
    2. Project Proponent submits Monitoring Report to VVBs
    3. VVBs perform Verification
    4. VVBs issue Verification Report & Verification Representation
    5. Project Proponent creates Issuance Representation
    6. Project Proponent uploads docs and creates Issuance Record
    7. Project Proponent Submits as Verified
    8. Registry evaluates documentation and accepts project as Registered Project
  4. Issuance Phase
    1. Registry issues Invoices
    2. Project Proponent pays Invoices
    3. Registry issues VCUs to Project Proponent
    4. Project Proponent has VCUs to transfer
  5. Pending Annual Verification Phase
    1. Project Proponent submits Monitoring Report to VVBs
    2. VVBs perform Verification
    3. VVBs issue Verification Report & Verification Representation
    4. Project Proponent creates Issuance Representation
    5. Project Proponent uploads docs and creates Issuance Record
    6. Project Proponent Submits as Verified
    7. Registry evaluates documentation and accepts project as Registered Project
    8. (Issuance Phase)

New Project - Developing Concept

  • Is your project new and awaiting Validation?
  • Why should I register my project on the NYSE Blue VCS Registry?
  • What do I need to do to register my project? How much does this cost?

VCS Validation Phase

  • Has your project undergone Validation only?
  • Why should I register my project with the NYSE Blue VCS Registry?
  • What do I need to do to show my project is Validated on the NYSE Blue VCS Registry? How much does this cost?

VCS Verification Phase

  • If your project has undergone initial Validation and Verification
  • Why should I register my project with the NYSE Blue VCS Registry?
  • What do I need to do to register my project and issue VCUs? How much does this cost?

Pending Annual Verification Phase

  • Is your project undergoing another Annual Verification?
  • What do I need to do to issue VCUs for a new verification period?
  • How much does this cost?

The VCSA has posted their rules and procedures for using the Verified Carbon Standard to issue Verified Carbon Units(VCUs).The NYSE Blue VCS Registry has been developed in conjunction with VCSA rules for registering and issuing VCUs. The following steps are necessary on the NYSE Blue VCS Registry to show that your carbon offset project is meeting the Verified Carbon Standard. First, you will need to have registered for a Project Proponent account on the NYSE Blue VCS Registry.

Step 1

If your project is new and awaiting Validation, please contact the NYSE Blue VCS Registry Administrator for more information. The VCSA will soon be launching an initiative to allow projects in the early stages of the pipeline to be associated with being a potential VCS project. There will be no fees associated with registering a project which has not yet undergone Validation. This is a great way to showcase your new and upcoming project to provide confidence to potential investors and buyers. Contact us to ensure you are kept updated on this particular item of interest.

Step 2

If your project has undergone Validation, you may create a project in your NYSE Blue VCS Registry account, upload the required documents and Submit the Project to be reviewed by NYSE Blue VCS Registry staff. We will respond within 24 hours regarding the status of your project and if any additional clarifications are required. Once the review is complete, we will approve your project with a status of Validated. You will have the option to show the project on public reports at this time or wait until VCUs have been issued. There are no fees associated with getting your project Validated on the Registry. Getting your project listed provides confidence to investors and buyers that your project is meeting the VCS Standard.

Step 3

If your project undergone initial Validation and Verification, you may create a project in your NYSE Blue VCS Registry account, upload the required documents , create issuance requests, and Submit the Project to be reviewed by NYSE Blue VCS Registry staff. We will respond within 24 hours regarding the status of your project and if any additional clarification is required. Once the review is complete, we will approve your project with a status of Verified and issue invoices for your VCU issuance request. Once payment is received, the VCUs will be deposited into your account. At this time, you will be able to initiate your transfers to buyers which are awaiting delivery. The issuance fee is $0.05 and the VCSA levy fee is $0.10. See the Fee Schedule for any other fees which may apply.

Step 4

If your project is seeking issuance for a subsequent Verification Period, you will need to update the required documents, update any other details about the project, create additional issuance requests and Submit the Project to be reviewed by NYSE Blue VCS Registry staff. We will respond within 24 hours regarding the status of your project and if any additional clarification is required. Once the review is complete, we will issue invoices for your VCU issuance request. Once payment is received, the VCUs will be deposited into your account.
